STAINLESS STEEL PIPE

Product Details

Stainless steel pipe is a corrosion-resistant cylindrical tube designed to transport fluids or gases. A pipe is measured using the nominal pipe size and its schedule. Cut2Size Metals stocks T304 stainless steel pipe with an internal welded seam and a dull mill finish. If your application or project requires seamless pipe, contact us and we can get it for you. Order standard lengths or have it cut to size, to your specifications with same-day shipping on most orders.

  • Standard sizes & custom cuts: Stock pipe is 20 ft. and can be custom cut to any length.
  • Tolerances: Our standard tolerance for custom cuts is +/- 1/16". If you need a tighter tolerance, call us!
  • Volume discounts: Unit prices drop on most custom-cut products when you increase the quantities.

Alloys & Finishes

Alloys

304 Stainless Steel
Type 304 is the most commonly used stainless steel alloy. It stands out with its strong formability and excellent weldability. It can be easily roll-formed or bent to suit specific needs making it a top choice for various applications. 304 offers reliable corrosion resistance and performs well in both chemical and atmospheric conditions.

Characteristics of alloy 304:
Machinability = Fair
Corrosion Resistance = Good
Weldability = Excellent
Bending/Forming = Good
Magnetic = No

Common applications of alloy 304:
  • Best general-purpose stainless steel and is suitable for a broad range of applications.
  • Food processing equipment, including containers and conveyors.
  • Kitchen appliances, such as sinks, cookware, countertops, and backsplashes.
  • Architectural elements like railings and panels.
  • Chemical processing equipment, including tanks and piping.
  • Medical instruments and devices.

Finishes

What is a Mill Finish?
Mill finish means that items come to exactly as they are finished at the mill. All materials can have some surface scratches and may have a dull finish. If you want a certain type of finish on your material, give us a call at 812-429-1634.

How is Pipe Measured

Nominal Size (ID) x Schedule x Length
Stainless steel pipe is typically measured by its nominal pipe size, which is based on the inside diameter (ID), and its wall thickness which is referred to by its schedule. Wall thickness also determines the strength of the pipe. Schedule 40 is the most common.

Difference Between Pipe & Tube

Tubing vs Pipe. What's the Difference? Stainless Steel Tubing (Round Tube) is generally associated with applications requiring precision and a smooth interior surface, while stainless steel pipe is typically used for conveying fluids or gases under pressure in industrial and plumbing applications. Pipe will always be round however tube can be round, square, or rectangular. The choice between tubing and pipe depends on the specific requirements of the application. If you have any questions about what material and size is right for your job, please call us at 812-429-1634 and we'll be happy to help!

Cut2Size Metals provides general properties and typical uses for the alloys we carry, however, the suitability of a material for any application or the manner of its use is the sole responsibility of the customer. If you have specific requirements for your application, we strongly suggest contacting us before purchasing.
